Block #4

Ik moet een beetje opschieten, gisteren kregen we op les te horen dat het de bedoeling is dat we onze quilttop over 2 weken klaar hebben... Dus vandaag tussen de bedrijven door maar doorgegaan met het log cabin blok waar we op les mee begonnen waren, en dit is het resultaat. Op naar de volgende blokken!


I have to speed up things a bit, yesterday in the lesson we were told that our quilt top is supposed to be ready in two weeks... So today I have worked on the log cabin block we started in the lesson, and this is the result. Now on with the other blocks!

Block #3

Blok nummer drie van mijn quiltcursus is af, er is veel tijd overheen gegaan maar ik vind het ook het mooiste blok tot nu toe geworden (al moet je niet naar de achterkant kijken, strijken is niet mijn sterkste kant...). Het is een variatie op de "drunkards path". Morgen hebben we weer les en dan gaan we de log cabin leren, dat is het laatste blok dat we op les maken. Dan maak ik er nog vier andere blokken bij. Ondertussen heb ik ook een achtergrondstofje uitgekozen voor de blokken, dat wordt een heel lichtgeel/crème kleur. Het wordt een mooi geheel zo samen, ondanks dat ik in het begin niet zo weg was van de kleuren, begint het me steeds meer te bevallen.


Block #3 from my quiltcourse is finished, it took quite some time but I think it is the nicest block until now (though you mustn't look at the back, ironing is not one of my virtues...). It's a variation of the "drunkards path". Tomorrow is another lesson and we are going to learn the log cabin, which is the last block we will make in the lessons. I will add another four blocks. In the meantime I chose the background fabric for the blocks, a very light yellow/cream color. It will be nice together, although I wasn't sure of the colors in the beginning, I am liking it more and more.

Een gelukkig nieuwjaar voor jullie allemaal! Ik hoop dat jullie allemaal fijne feestdagen hebben gehad, wij in ieder geval wel.

De kerstvakantie is weer voorbij, ik mag nog een weekje thuisblijven omdat ik gisteren geopereerd ben aan mijn been. Een weekje rusten dus. In de kerstvakantie heeft mijn man het rommelhok op zolder omgetoverd in een naaikamertje voor mij, en het resultaat is te zien in de eerste twee foto's. Ik ben er erg blij mee!

Weten jullie nog dat ik ging meedoen in een RR? Inmiddels heb ik twee lappen hier thuis gehad, eerst die van Bianca, maar daar laat ik geen foto's van zien, omdat Bianca het een verrassing wil laten blijven tot hij weer bij haar in de bus valt. Op de derde en vierde foto zie je de lap van Simone en wat ik erop borduurde (een gedeelte van Moose Lodge van La-D-Da). Ik verwacht de volgende lap elk moment, als de post tenminste geen vertraging heeft opgelopen door de sneeuw die hier gisteren viel, een behoorlijk pak!






A happy new year to you all, I hope you had wonderful holidays, we sure did.

Christmas vacation is over now, but I am staying home for one more week since I had an operation on my leg yesterday. So a week rest for me. In the vacation my husband transformed a storage room in the attic into a sewing room for me, which you can see in the first two pictures. I am very happy with it!

Remember that RR I was joining? In the meantime I had two of the project here, the first from Bianca, but I am not going to show you any pictures of that, since Bianca decided it should stay a suprise for her. The second one I worked on was that from Simone, and you can see that and what I stitched on it (part of "Moose Lodge" from La-D-Da) in the third and fourth picture. I expect the next RR in the mail any moment, that is if it is not delayed by the inches of snow we had here yesterday.

Vandaag was het koud, en het sneeuwde. In de woonkamer was het lekker warm, het rook er lekker (kennen jullie Yankee Candles al, die ruiken echt heerlijk) en het was er gezellig, met de lichtjes in de kerstboom aan. Dus nadat ik de kinderen naar school had gebracht en wat huishoudelijke klusjes had gedaan, haalde ik mijn naaimachine naar beneden en ging aan de slag. Met als resultaat mijn eerste echte quilttop af! Ik kocht het pakketje twee jaar geleden op een hobbybeurs, maar in al die tijd was het me niet gelukt om het af te krijgen. Nu dus wel, en ik ben blij met het resultaat. Nu nog doorpitten en afwerken, benieuwd of me dat ook lukt, want dat heb ik op mijn cursus nog niet geleerd...


Today was a cold day, and it snowed. In the livingroom it was warm, it smelled nice (do you know Yankee Candles, they smell just lovely) and the lights in the Christmas tree were shining. So after I brought the children to school and did some housework, I brought my sewing machine down and got going. And the result is my first finished quilt top! I bought the kit two years ago at a hobby expo, but in all that time I never got to finishing it. Now I did, and I am happy with the result. Now I have to quilt and finish it, I'm curious if I will manage, because I didn't learn that yet in my course...

Ik heb het aantal reacties ingevoerd in een randomizer op internet, en de winnaar is: nummer 1, oftewel Verona wint het Brittercup patroon. Gefeliciteerd Verona, ik stuur het morgen op!

Een tijdje geleden ben ik gestart met een beginnerscursus patchwork, en ik heb nu twee lessen gehad, dus het wordt eens tijd om jullie te laten zien wat ik daar zoal leer. We hebben nu twee blokken gemaakt, de bedoeling is dat ik van deze blokken er nog twee maak, maar ik ben er nog niet helemaal uit of ik die op dezelfde manier ga maken of dat het een variatie wordt. Uiteindelijk maken we blokken volgens 4 verschillende technieken, en de bedoeling is dat mijn quilt uiteindelijk de maat van een 1-persoons bed krijgt, mijn oudste dochter wil een sprei. Vandaar ook de felle kleurtjes, wat absoluut mijn keuze niet zou zijn, maar zij is er gelukkig mee... Het zijn stofjes uit de Midwest Modern collectie van Amy Butler.

Als laatste een foto van mijn Cirque des Cercles in wording, dat is dus meer mijn eigen kleurkeuze... Vikki Clayton's Embers op 32-count vintage linnen.

A while ago I started a beginners course patchwork, and I have had two lessons up till now, so it is time I showed you my progress. We made two blocks now, I have to make two more of these but I'm not sure yet if I'll make them the same or with a variation to the original pattern. Eventually we'll make blocks in 4 different techniques, and my quilt is supposed to be the size of a single bed, my eldest daughter wants a throw. This is why it has such bright colors, I wouldn't have chosen them for a quilt, but she's happy with it... The fabrics are from the Midwest Modern collection from Amy Butler.

Last but not least a picture of my Cirque des Cercles to be, that's more my choice of colors... Vikki Clayton's Embers on 32-count vintage linen.

Het is alweer te lang geleden, maar met het resultaat dat ik wel wat te showen heb hier...

Allereerst is daar het Tilda hart dat ik van Anita kreeg in de "wensenkermis" op onze Nederlandse e-mail groep. Een klein beetje in kerststijl zijn we dus al.

Als tweede en derde twee kleine kerstborduurtjes die ik gemaakt heb uit het boek "Rouge", met de bedoeling ze zelf in een kerstversiering te verwerken, ik heb er heel leuk stof voor gekocht bij Ikea

En als klap op de vuurpijl ben ik begonnen aan een groot nieuw werk, namelijk Cirque des Cercles van Ink Circles. Ik maak het met zijden garen "Embers" van Vikki Clayton, dat borduurt heerlijk!

Omdat dit mijn 100e blogberichtje is en het vandaag Sinterklaas is, geef ik een kadootje weg, namelijk het patroon Winter is in the Air van Brittercup Designs. Wil je daar ook kans op maken? It's been too long, but as a result I have something to show you...

First there is the Tilda heart that Anita sent me in the "wish carroussel" we had on the Dutch e-mail group in November. It already gives our house a bit of a Christmas spirit.

Second and third, there are two little Christmas designs I stitched from the book "Rouge". I plan on finishing them as Christmas ornaments, I have bought some nice fabric at Ikea for that.

And last but certainly not least I have started a big new work, called "Cirque des Cercles" by Ink Circles. I am stitching it with silk floss "Embers" from Vikki Clayton, which is beautiful!

Een tijdje geleden vertelde ik over de mooie LHN exchange die ik van Elza kreeg. Natuurlijk heb ik in die exchange zelf ook wat moeten maken, en wel voor Pascale. Voor haar maakte ik een miniquiltje van het LHN threadpack "Berries". Het geheel is geborduurd met Crescent Colour zijde garens. Het miniquiltje past precies in het houten dienblaadje dat erbij zit.

Daarna volgde er een herfst/halloween exchange, je mocht zelf kiezen wat voor onderwerp je het meest aansprak. Ik moest iets maken voor Simone, en zij koos voor herfst. Ze houdt heel erg van huisjes in LHN stijl dus ik maakte voor haar LHN's "Acorn Hill". De originele kleurnummers van de garens heb ik vervangen voor Weeks Dye Works en Gentle Art Sampler Threads en ik maakt er uiteindelijk ook een miniquiltje van. Voor de achterkant vond ik nog een echt herfstofje in mijn voorraad.

Ikzelf kreeg dit schattige Lizzie Kate kussentje van Verona, het staat te pronken op mijn kast. Erbij zat nog een heel mooi naaikistje, waar ik heel blij mee ben!

A while ago I told you about the beautiful LHN exchange I got from Elza. Of course in this exchange, I also had to make something myself, and it was for Pascale. I made her a miniquilt from the LHN threadpack "Berries". It is stitched with Crescent Colour silks. The miniquilt fits exactly in the wooden tray I sent along.

Then followed a fall/halloween exchange, you could choose your favorite subject. I made something for Simone, and she chose fall as her subject, and she loves houses in LHN style, so I stitched her LHN's "Acorn Hill". I substituted the original used Crescent Colour thread with Weeks Dye Works and Gentle Art Sampler Threads, and made it into a miniquilt as well. In my stash I had the perfect fall fabric for the back.

In this exchange I got this lovely Lizzie Kate pillow from Verona. She sent along a beautiful wooden box I am very happy with.
