Today was a cold day, and it snowed. In the livingroom it was warm, it smelled nice (do you know Yankee Candles, they smell just lovely) and the lights in the Christmas tree were shining. So after I brought the children to school and did some housework, I brought my sewing machine down and got going. And the result is my first finished quilt top! I bought the kit two years ago at a hobby expo, but in all that time I never got to finishing it. Now I did, and I am happy with the result. Now I have to quilt and finish it, I'm curious if I will manage, because I didn't learn that yet in my course...

And the winner is... and patchwork

I put the number of comments in a randomizer on the internet, and the winner is: number 1, which means Verona will get the Brittercup pattern! Congratulations Verona, the pattern will be sent out tomorrow!

A while ago I started a beginners course patchwork, and I have had two lessons up till now, so it is time I showed you my progress. We made two blocks now, I have to make two more of these but I'm not sure yet if I'll make them the same or with a variation to the original pattern. Eventually we'll make blocks in 4 different techniques, and my quilt is supposed to be the size of a single bed, my eldest daughter wants a throw. This is why it has such bright colors, I wouldn't have chosen them for a quilt, but she's happy with it... The fabrics are from the Midwest Modern collection from Amy Butler.

Last but not least a picture of my Cirque des Cercles to be, that's more my choice of colors... Vikki Clayton's Embers on 32-count vintage linen.

Pictures to show and giveaway!

It's been too long, but as a result I have something to show you...

First there is the Tilda heart that Anita sent me in the "wish carroussel" we had on the Dutch e-mail group in November. It already gives our house a bit of a Christmas spirit.

Second and third, there are two little Christmas designs I stitched from the book "Rouge". I plan on finishing them as Christmas ornaments, I have bought some nice fabric at Ikea for that.

And last but certainly not least I have started a big new work, called "Cirque des Cercles" by Ink Circles. I am stitching it with silk floss "Embers" from Vikki Clayton, which is beautiful!

Since this is my 100th post and we are celebrating Sinterklaas here today, I'm having a little give away: the pattern Winter is in the Air by Brittercup Designs. If you'd like to win this, leave a comment on this post before Sunday December 7, 6.00 p.m. and maybe your name will be drawn!

Exchanges to show!

A while ago I told you about the beautiful LHN exchange I got from Elza. Of course in this exchange, I also had to make something myself, and it was for Pascale. I made her a miniquilt from the LHN threadpack "Berries". It is stitched with Crescent Colour silks. The miniquilt fits exactly in the wooden tray I sent along.

Then followed a fall/halloween exchange, you could choose your favorite subject. I made something for Simone, and she chose fall as her subject, and she loves houses in LHN style, so I stitched her LHN's "Acorn Hill". I substituted the original used Crescent Colour thread with Weeks Dye Works and Gentle Art Sampler Threads, and made it into a miniquilt as well. In my stash I had the perfect fall fabric for the back.

In this exchange I got this lovely Lizzie Kate pillow from Verona. She sent along a beautiful wooden box I am very happy with.

Fall kicks in with a lot of wind and even more rain today... and so we slept in and stayed in the house today, all doing our own little things. That's nice after a busy Saturday with swimming class, grocery shopping, laundry, even more shopping etcetera. It was also a good day for some stitching on the next exchange, which has a halloween/fall theme. So that is what I did, and I think I made a good choice, but as usual you'll have to wait somewhat to see a picture!

LHN-exchange

On the Dutch Borduurhoekje email group I took place in a LHN-exchange. The one stitching for me was Elza, and boy did she have a job, because when she was finished (she thought) it turned out she made me something I had already gotten for my birthday. She started all over again and with a beautiful result, this is what landed on my doormat last week! She also threw in some goodies: a fall fabric, stickers for embroidery on paper and a little quilt pattern. Elza, thanks so much for this lovely exchange! You'll have to wait somewhat for pictures of my contribution to this exchange, it hasn't arrived yet!

prachtig weer...beautiful weather

The weather was beautiful this weekend, so today we decided to take a walk with my sisters family on St. Pieters mountain. Here's an impression:

en weer een mijlpaal! Another milestone!

Yes... I'm still here. I decided to blog in Dutch again too, since that makes it just that bit more worthwhile to follow my blog for some people. I plan on writing more here over and over again, hopefully that will happen for real soon!

Today was a day with a milestone: our youngest went on her first school trip without mommy. They went to Bokrijk, a place with a huge playground. She loved it, and didn't mind at all to leave mommy at the school!(and she brought half the sand of the playground in her shoes, as a souvenir...)

I made some citrus pomanders today and put them in a bowl, together with the chestnuts Isabelle and I found on our way home from school. A big vase with little pumpkins next to it, and my dinner table suddenly looks like autumn! And smells like it too!!!

Busy day...

I shamelessely stole this idea from Francine's blog, keeping in mind that you better steal a good idea than to think of a bad one yourself... Although my day wasn't way near as interesting as hers...

This was my day:

7.00 get up, wash, get clothes on, make breakfast for me and the kids, read newspaper online, help my youngest with her clothes, get bags ready for the kids... etc. etc.

8.15 walk the kids to school. Stay there to get an explanation of the school library computer system.

10.00 pick up youngest daughter from her class and drive to the dermatologist

11.00 drop off youngest daughter at my parents, drive to the dentist

11.20 with a mouth half paralyzed by anaesthetics and two new fillings, drive car to home, walk to school to pick up eldest daughter

12.15 have lunch at my parents (ate egg à la daddy, yum!)

1.15 drop the kids off at school again, on my way helped my daughters friend who fell from the climbing fence

1.20 pick up medication for youngest daughter in the pharmacy

1.30 back to school, to unpack books for the library

3.15 pick up girls again, one brought a friend to play

3.45 make homework with my eldest

4.30 start to prepare dinner

5.10 bring daughters friend home, on my way back go to the store to pick up some things for dinner

5.25 finish dinner, call my sister

5.50 dinner

6.30 bring some things my friend left here over to her

6.35 clean up the kitchen

7.00 write this blog entry

And now I'm wondering why I feel tired and dont feel like stitching anymore... off to my cup of tea and a bit of tv watching!!!

This is fun!

On one of my favorite blogs I found a fun link, and thought I should give that a try. I did this afternoon and made these:

The one with the pumpkins is for my friend Iris (she promised she wouldn't peek, but if she should: I hope you like them Iris!!!), we did a little private exchange between the two of us, she sent me this beautiful floss tag (see Iris, I immediately took it in use!), and I would make her a set of Halloween coasters.

The other set is also a present, I will be mailing both out tomorrow, and I will definitely be making more of these soon, they are such fun to make, so I think some of you should be watching their mail boxes...

Blogger is still making a mess of my layout, I don't know why...

School started again...

... on Monday. And so, this past weekend, we "celebrated" the end of summer vacation. On Saturday the children went to their grandparents for a sleepover, so we had an unexpected evening "off duty". First we wanted to go to the cinema, but there wasn't any movie that appealing to us to leave home for. Instead we took a long walk with the dog, made ourselves a lovely dinner of buffalo mozzarella and spanish ham

and pizza, and after that watched a dvd while sharing a jar of Ben and Jerries cookie dough icecream... we thought it was a nice evening! Just before going to bed we had a (kind of blurry, there was a bit of a mist) view at the partial moon eclipse

On Sunday, we baked a pie

for dessert and then vacation was over... Fortunately both our daughters like school so much, although the youngest had a bit of a problem saying goodbye when I left her at school in the morning.

Finally, I have some stitching to show you, it is my design on the RR to start on Sept. 1. I have adapted LHN's "Spot of Coffee/Tea" to fit both the coffee and tea theme I want my RR to have. I haven't finished it yet, but I hope to do have done so by the end of this week, so that I can make the parcel ready to send out for the first time.

sorry for the messy layout on this post, I cannot seem to get it right, hopefully the next one will be better!

Some things to show

As I am sure she must have unpacked it by now I want to show you a little something I made this week to send along with Chantals birthday present. She loves blue and tea so I thought this would be just right for her:

"Tea with Jane" freebie by The Sampler Girl, done on off-white 28 count jobelan in GAST threads.

Yesterday the mailman surprised me with a package from Chantal in our Dutch Borduurhoekje group's summer needleroll exchange, and this is what was in it:

Besides the beautiful needleroll there were some fabrics in yummy yellow colors, fun buttons, satin ribbons in various widths and colors, and a Jeannette Douglas design called "Summer at the Ocean". Thanks Chantal for the great package!

Last Sunday we returned from our summer vacation, which this year we spent at a camping in the Belgian town of Virton. It was a nice vacation, the weather was nice, and I got a lot of stitching done. Allmost all of it are present so I will have to wait showing them until they are received...

Today I am going to start a new project, an RR with 5 other ladies from the Borduurhoekje group. For my subject I have chosen LHN patterns with a coffee/tea theme. The RR is supposed to be finished on my birthday next year. First sending date is Sept. 1, I am very looking forward to receiving the RR packages every time!

I've been spoilt

Yesterday was my birthday and boy have I been spoilt... I got a Zen, Jamie Olivers latest book, gift certificates, tapas bowls and a book called "Sleeping Arrangements" which seems perfect for taking on vacation!
Also, there were some stunning gifts in the mail, first of all I got a gift from Saskia, she was making something for me in the birthday exchange of our Dutch Borduurhoekje mail group. I was stunned when I opened it, she has kept in mind what I like so well! She had made me this beautiful needlebook with a lovely LHN design on it, AND the matching scissor fob (which was stitched over one thread and so neatly done!):

But there was even more, an Isabelle Vautier pattern I have seen on her blog once, with the necessary threads AND frame, and last but not least two beautiful summery LHN fruit thread packs:

I'll just have to find three matching pieces of fabric, they will definitely all go in my stitching bag for vacation!

Then there was this package from my dear friend Chantal, which contained the most beautiful bag she made:

Also in the picture are the two patterns with matching JABC buttons she sent me: January and February in the Stitch Every Day Teapot Series. I don't think I can manage to stitch on them while we're on vacation, but hey, I can try, can't I?

Saskia and Chantal, I want to thank you both so much for these precious gifts, they made me very happy!
